Kim Cannon grew up dividing his time between his grandfather’s ranch on the head
of the Green River north of Cora, Wyoming and California.
After working on ranches in Sublette and Teton Counties he owned
and operated his own horse pack outfit in the Wind River Mountains
(1969-1973).
He received his
A.B. degree from Dartmouth College,
cum laude in 1970, and his J.D. from the University of Colorado in
1974.
He joined the firm,
then known as Burgess & Davis, out of law school and became a partner in
1980. Concentrating on complex litigation, Kim has represented clients
throughout Wyoming in a wide variety of cases from natural resources,
commercial, construction, employment, personal injury, professional
malpractice, securities and large asset divorce litigation.
Mr. Cannon is an active member of the Sheridan County Bar
(President, 1982), the Wyoming State Bar (Civil Pattern Jury
Instructions and Continuing Legal Education Committees), and the
American Bar Association (Litigation Section).
He served as a member and chairman of the Wyoming Environmental
Quality Council (1992-1996) and the Wyoming Commission on Judicial
Conduct and Ethics (1997-2003).
Additionally, he
has served as a Vice President of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association
(1997-present) and a board member of the Wyoming Trial Lawyers
Association (2004-2006). As one of the firm’s five “av” rated attorneys
by Martindale Hubbell, he has also been a long-standing selection in
Best Lawyers in America (personal injury), in
Mountain States Super Lawyers and Who’s Who in American Law.
Mr. Cannon was inducted as a Fellow,
International Academy of Trial Lawyers, in 2007.
Outside of the
law, his interests range from theater (Wyo Theater, Inc 1982-1991) to
the environmental policy (Wyoming Outdoor Council 1985-1991) to polo
(Big Horn Polo Club 1976-1989) to horses, skiing and fly fishing.
He serves as the DED (Director of Enrollment Development) for
Dartmouth College for Wyoming coordinating all alumni interviews and
recommendations of applicants from the state and served as the Chair of
the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee for Wyoming (1997-2005).
