1968 was the year Richard "Dick" M. Davis, Jr. joined well known Wyoming attorney, Henry A. Burgess, in the practice
of law and he has been with the same firm ever since. For many of the last 40 years, Dick served as managing partner
and helped guide the firm from one office with two attorneys to its present size of three offices and 11 attorneys.
In 2009 Dick elected to become "Of Counsel" to the firm. Martindale-Hubbell has recognized Dick as an AV rated lawyer
for the past 25 years. Additionally, Best Lawyers in America has also recognized him as a preeminent lawyer in the
area of Real Estate Law for the past 25 years.
Though relieved of his partnership responsibilities, Dick has not reduced his active practice in the areas of real
estate, business organizations, probate, trust and estate planning. He is a member of Wealth Counsel, a nationwide
network of estate planning attorneys, and the American Bar Association Section on Real Property, Probate & Trust Law,
and a former member of the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys.
Dick has also contributed to his profession and community. He has served on numerous committees for the Wyoming State
Bar Association and the Supreme Court of Wyoming. These include the Governor's Intergovernmental Judicial Study
Commission on State Courts, the Permanent Rules Committee (Civil), the Multi-Disciplinary Practice (MDP) Committee,
the Judicial Merit Selection Committee for the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Governor’s Commission on
Health Care Reform.
He also served as State Bar Commissioner for the Fourth Judicial District and is a member of the Sheridan County
Bar Association (President, 1970). Dick was elected President of the Wyoming Bar Association (1989-90), and is
a member of the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, and a Fellow of the American Bar
Foundation (State Chair). In 1992 he was elected Wyoming State Bar Delegate to the American Bar Association and
served as ABA Delegate from 2001-2005.
Dick is a Past-President of the Board of Trustees of Northern Wyoming Community College District (Sheridan College),
Past-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County, Wyoming, where he participated as
both a hearing officer and decision maker in disputes involving both professional and semi-professional medical and
non-professional staff. He is also Past-Chair of the Memorial Hospital Foundation of Sheridan County and currently
serves as a Trustee for a number of private foundations and trusts.
He is also a Past-Chair and on the Board of the Wyoming Chapter of The Nature Conservancy (recently appointed emeritus),
Past-Chair of the Sheridan Area Community Foundation Advisory Board, an affiliate of the Wyoming Community Foundation,
and currently serves on the Board of the WYO Theater, Inc., and is a Trustee and the immediate Past-President of the
Board of Trustees of the University of Wyoming.
Dick and his wife, Tami, founded and operate Tandem Productions, a non-profit organization which supports performing
arts in the Sheridan community. They were recently honored to receive one of the 2009 Governor’s Arts Award for their
work in children's theater and music.
Dick was born in Denver, Colorado and received his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of
Colorado in 1964 and 1967, respectively. He is licensed to practice law in both Colorado and Wyoming.
When not otherwise occupied, Dick enjoys spending time with his extended family including six grandchildren, skiing,
playing pickelball and tennis.
