Kate M. Fox is a partner in the Cheyenne office of Davis & Cannon, LLP. She joined the firm after serving for one
year as law clerk to Federal District Court Judge Clarence A. Brimmer.
Kate worked on her family's dude ranch near Dubois, Wyoming, edited a small town newspaper and a restaurant
magazine, and was a ski bum for several years before going to law school. She graduated from the University
of Wyoming College of Law in 1989 at the top of her class, was Editor-in-Chief of the Land & Water Law Review,
and was inducted in the Order of the Coif.
Kate served for six years on the Wyoming State Bar Board of Professional Responsibility, she recently served on the
Merit Selection Panel for appointment of a full-time United States Magistrate Judge, and she currently serves on the
Standing Committee on Local Rules for the Wyoming Federal District Court.
Kate has a varied practice, with an emphasis in litigation, employment law and natural resources law. She is
the author Wyoming Employment Law, XXXI Land and Water Law Rev. 775, and has taught numerous CLE classes on
the subject. She represents several Wyoming municipalities, defending them in civil rights cases as well
as various tort cases. Kate also has extensive administrative law experience, and appears before the Wyoming
Environmental Quality Council, the Public Service Commission, Department of Employment and the Board of Control,
as well as other state agencies. She has represented landowners in matters arising from coalbed methane gas and
water production, and is the co-author of Demanding Beneficial Use: Opportunities and Obligations for Wyoming
Regulators in Coalbed Methane, 6 Wyo. L. Rev. 369 (2006).
She has been recognized as one of the Leading Litigators in America by the Lawdragon 500; she has been
named in Mountain States Super Lawyers, in Best Lawyers in America, and in Chambers USA.
Benchmark Litigation calls her a “litigation star.” She is one of the firm’s four lawyers with an AV
Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review rating.
Kate has two children and enjoys the outdoors whenever she can.
