Founded in 1948, Davis & Cannon, LLP is a general practice law firm, serving clients throughout Wyoming and the Northern Rocky
Mountains from its offices in Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Gillette. Henry A. Burgess, a descendant of a pioneer ranching family and the son of the judge
from northern Wyoming, started our firm in Sheridan, Wyoming after attending Harvard and the University of Michigan Law School. Our firm began
with a strong foundation in natural resources, representing land owners and diverse businesses throughout the state. We particularly value the
longstanding personal relationships we develop with our clients in finding solutions to their legal problems. Our law firm emphasizes efficient
and practical problem-solving approaches to the legal issues our clients face, and we take pride in being recognized as among the best Wyoming lawyers.
Davis & Cannon, LLP is a law firm recognized in the region for our attorneys’ achievements and statewide presence in the courtroom,
before administrative agencies, on natural resource issues, policymaking, and in business. With offices in Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Gillette, we are
able to serve efficiently our clients’ needs throughout Wyoming. Our attorneys have received recognition from numerous sources, including the following
in 2009:
- Super Lawyers magazine recognized Kim D. Cannon and Kate M. Fox as top
attorneys in Wyoming. Only five percent of all lawyers receive this recognition.
- Chambers USA named Davis & Cannon, LLP among Wyoming's top firms for
Labor & Employment and General Commercial Litigation.
- Benchmark Litigation listed Davis & Cannon, LLP as one of only four "highly
recommended" local litigation firms in the State of Wyoming. Kate M. Fox was listed as a "Local
Litigation Star" in the areas of Civil Litigation and Employment Litigation.
We are recognized by Martindale-Hubbell, with four of the firm's 10 attorneys holding an AV Martindale rating.
Martindale-Hubbell has recognized Richard M. Davis, Jr. as an AV rated lawyer for the past 25 years. Kim D. Cannon is a member
of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an honor limited to 500 active trial lawyers in the United States who exemplify
superior skill and ability in trial and appellate practice.
We know Wyoming. The firm's long commitment to maintaining two full-service offices in Sheridan and Cheyenne, 325
miles across Wyoming, and a satellite office in Gillette, illustrates how important we believe it is to provide our clients with effective
advice and service anywhere in the state of Wyoming. Our Cheyenne office gives our clients excellent access to state government agencies
and political issues that affect their interests. Our Sheridan office is located in north-central Wyoming; the location of perennial mineral
development, ranching, water and business issues. Our lawyers enjoy representing Wyoming's people and businesses and regularly practice in
all state courts and federal courts and before most state and federal agencies throughout Wyoming.
When we say, "We know Wyoming," we speak through years of collective
experience that our lawyers have in this state. We have made a long-term commitment to
live and work in Wyoming. That is why we involve ourselves in our communities, devoting
countless hours to volunteer service, making Wyoming a better place to live and raise our
families.
Our lawyers deliver quality legal work and sound advice; we have expertise
in litigation, appellate practice, business organization, taxation, employment law, real
estate, estate planning, probate, natural resources, and environmental law. We strive for
excellence and timely service, whether in drafting an estate plan for a local rancher,
conducting complex litigation, or in negotiating agreements.
